Tottenham have been linked with a move for Isco ever since Mauricio Pochettino heaped praise on the Real Madrid man, and his performance against Iran showed exactly why Spurs should break the bank to finally make it happen.

Not for the first time in Pochettino’s reign, this summer feels absolutely crucial for Spurs, essentially deciding what sort of club they want to be.

While Daniel Levy and the club are never going to completely change their model, the massive wages in Harry Kane’s new contract shows the club are willing to adapt to secure their top talent.

The current squad has bags of potential, but they’re just missing that truly world class superstar to push them to the next level.

If Levy and Spurs can add someone like Isco to the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Heung-min Son and Harry Kane, they would score a quite simply ridiculous amount of goals, and perhaps even enough to compete with Guardiola’s City for the title.

The 26 year-old was man of the match in Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Iran, racking up a truly remarkable nine dribbles to go with his four shots and one key pass.

He was involved in absolutely everything, touching the ball 138 times and maintaining an incredible 92 per cent pass success rate.

Pochettino of course likes his players to press with bundles of energy, and the Spanish magician isn’t afraid to get stuck in himself, providing two vital tackles to stop Iran counter attacks and keep his side on the front foot.

Valued at £67.5m by Transfermarkt, Isco wouldn’t come cheap, but he would make the rest of the league sit up and take notice.
