Chelsea have joined the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Jack Grealish according to The Sun.

What's the story?

Spurs have been linked with the Aston Villa ace all summer, but the move was put in jeopardy by Villa's takeover bid which meant they weren't so desperate to raise funds.

However, according to the report, Villa are aware of Financial Fair Play regulations and are still willing to sell their prized asset this summer, with Tottenham reportedly lining up a £20million bid.

However, Chelsea have turned up late to the party to try and hijack their rivals' bid for the young ace as Maurizio Sarri looks to strengthen the midfield according to the report.

What does this mean?

Tottenham haven't had the most exciting transfer window this summer after failing to bring anyone to White Hart Lane so far with time ticking for Mauricio Pochettino.

The midfield is a problem area with Moussa Sissoko sustaining an injury and Mousa Dembele still being linked with a move away from White Hart Lane, and Grealish has long-been mooted as a new addition in the middle of the park.

Grealish wouldn't be seen as a direct replacement for Dembele but he very much fits in the Tottenham mould of raw, young English talent that Pochettino could mould into a real star.

It remains to be seen how genuine Chelsea's interest is in Grealish but they are not known for blooding in young talent and have serious competition in attacking midfield which would see his game time more limited.

One likely outcome from Chelsea's interest could be a bidding war which would see Daniel Levy having to pay more than he would have originally intended but time is running out for him to land his targets.
