Victor Wanyama was replaced at the interval of Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League semi-final second leg away to Ajax on Wednesday night.
Spurs are desperately short of midfield options at the moment, meaning that there was a position in the middle for Wanyama, who has had his injury problems this season.
According to WhoScored, the 27-year-old did not make a single tackle during his 45 minutes on the field before being hooked.
It was not a surprise that head coach Mauricio Pochettino introduced a centre-forward in Wanyama’s place, with Fernando Llorente thrown onto the field.
It did appear that Tottenham were heading out of the competition when Ajax took a 2-0 lead on the night, but the Premier League club incredibly scored three times in the second half through Lucas Moura to set up a final with Liverpool.

The Spurs fans will not be too bothered that Wanyama struggled after seeing what happened in the latter stages, but there is no getting away from the fact that the Kenyan was the subject of a lot of frustration during his time on the field.
