England came from behind to win their UEFA Nations League group on Sunday, and the performance of Harry Kane was another stark reminder that Tottenham have the best centre forward in world football.

In what has become one of strangest criticisms in modern football, Kane is often bashed by rivals for scoring “tap-ins and penalties”, something players like Ruud van Nistelrooy made a career out of.

Tottenham fans have long insisted that their talisman is far more than just a goalscorer, and his recent performances for England have proved them right.

While the 25 year-old has not quite hit top form for his club this season, he put in an unbelievable centre forward’s display against Spain in the last international break, and proved his worth again on Sunday.

The goalscoring machine was his usual self when it came to firing in shots at every opportunity, taking five efforts at goal and testing the goalkeeper on four of them.

Despite playing with very limited service surrounded by a stingy Croatia defence, the Three Lions’ skipper popped up with the winning goal after ghosting in behind Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren at a set piece.

His overall play was even better than the goal though, as he won five aerial duels against the World Cup finalists’ towering centre back pairing. No other player won more aerial duels than Kane, including Lovren and Domagoj Vida.

His hold up play has developed far beyond just winning the high balls though, as he completed two key passes, one dribble and also drew one foul.

Kane also did his defensive duties, leading Gareth Southgate’s pressing system from the front, winning one tackle and committing one foul.

The Tottenham talisman has gone from strength to strength in the last 18 months. He has the physical prowess and work rate of Karim Benzema, the clinical finishing of Robert Lewandowski and the link-up play of Luis Suarez.

Despite the presence of superstars like Mohamed Salah, Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne, is Kane the best player in the Premier League?
