Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been in the headlines of late after making his England debut last week.

The Chelsea midfielder, who is currently on loan at Crystal Palace, put in a man-of-the-match display in a friendly with Germany at Wembley.

So far in the 2017-18 campaign, the 21-year-old has made eight appearances in all competitions and has created one assist in the process.

Loftus-Cheek was came onto the scene in 2014 when he was handed a first-team debut by then-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Under the Portuguese coach, the midfielder made nine appearances altogether and his career stagnated.

Now, the England international's father Trevor has hit out at the Blues, claiming that Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino would have put faith in his son.

Loftus-Cheek's father told the Daily Mail:

"Jose Mourinho held him back. He should have been playing. Everyone behind the scenes was asking: ‘Why isn’t he playing?’ If Ruben was playing for Mauricio Pochettino, he’d have 70, 80, 90 first team appearances by now."

Tottenham fans have given their reactions to these claims, with some urging the club to consider making a move for the midfielder in the transfer window.
