Luke Shaw could have benefited from Mauricio Pochettino’s guidance

As reported by The Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are set to miss out on signing Luke Shaw this summer, with the player eager to stay at Manchester United and fight for his place in Jose Mourinho’s squad.

What’s the story?

Shaw has struggled to convince Mourinho that he is worth starting on a consistent basis, with Ashley Young regularly selected in the left-back slot despite it not being the player’s natural position.

That, combined with the fact his contract runs out at Old Trafford next summer, meant he was a prime candidate to leave Old Trafford this summer.

As reported by The Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are one of the teams interested in his services alongside the likes of Monaco and Chelsea, but they’re set to miss out, with the £13.5m-rated defender eager to fight for his place at the Red Devils.

Would he have been a good signing for Spurs?

Luke Shaw’s career since signing for Manchester United from Southampton has struggled to kick into gear and at times he’s looked like a player devoid of confidence and belief in himself.

Playing in new surroundings for a manager, like Mauricio Pochettino, who wants him could have been exactly what he needed to put his tumultuous relationship with Jose Mourinho behind him and reach peak form again.

There is a talented attacking full-back there somewhere and whether he leaves this summer or next, on a free, he is likely to be a benefit to most Premier League sides, Tottenham included.

Whoever gets to him first and shows him life beyond the Red Devils could be onto a winner indeed.
