Tottenham Hotspur's chances of signing Tanguy Ndombele look slim as Lyon are demanding £70m for the midfielder, according to The Daily Star.

What's the word?

Mauricio Pochettino's side remain in the fight at the top of the Premier League but their form has been sub-part to the levels that the Lilywhites aspire to reach, while their Champions League ambitions are already at risk of going up in smoke.

The decision not to sign any new players during the summer appears to have backfired as Spurs' squad is plagued by an injury crisis and Pochettino has already started to eye new additions in the January window, including Lyon's Tanguy Ndombele.

However, Spurs look likely to miss out on the services of the highly-rated midfielder as The Daily Star reports the Ligue 1 side have slapped a mammoth £7om asking price upon the head of the 21-year-old.

Is there any chance?

Tottenham have two major problems in their hunt to sign Ndombele and the first is the mammoth asking price, which Spurs are almost certain to be unable to afford in a period where they are poised to move stadiums.

Splashing such a high amount on a player is also not a transfer style that Spurs are accustomed too and, should they decide to change their approach and go all-out for Ndombele, they will encounter their second major issue.

That is the interest of Manchester City in the midfielder who helped Lyon inflict a surprise defeat on Pep Guardiola's side in the Champions League this season, as Spurs surely do not have the capability to go toe-to-toe in the market with the Citizens.
