Fabio Coentrao is reported to be on Tottenham’s wanted list as doubts continue to surround the future of Benoit Assou-Ekotto, according to the Mirror.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is planning a summer shake-up of his squad and is ready to let Assou-Ekotto move on with Monaco reported to be closing in on a swoop.
The Portuguese will need a replacement if that is the case and he could be ready to turn to his fellow countryman Coentrao at Real Madrid to plug the gap.
Coentrao is available for £15million and Villas-Boas will make a move for the player if he stays at White Hart Lane, following reports he is on Real Madrid’s wanted list.
Coentrao moved to Real Madrid in 2011 for a fee of £27m, after four successful seasons at Benfica. He has since been splitting time with Brazilian left-back Marcelo, and may be looking for a fresh start.
Tottenham have England U21 star Danny Rose as an in-house replacement if Assou-Ekotto leaves, but Villas-Boas may be looking for a more experienced option.
Spurs have also shown interest in Inter Milan left back Alvaro Pereira, who has been capped 44 times for Uruguay. This would be the cheaper and more likely option for Tottenham this summer.
