Real Madrid are stepping up their interest in Gareth Bale, prompting Tottenham to open up future talks with the player.
Bale still has three years to run on his current deal at White Hart Lane but interest in the player has never been greater following a season that saw him pick up both the PFA and Football Writers’ player of the year awards.
Spurs are understandably keen to keep hold of the Wales star but they do not want a repeat of the situation that saw relations with Luka Modric become strained before he eventually left for Real.
Daniel Levy and Bale will therefore hold talks in the next few weeks and the Spurs chief will be hoping to convince the player to stay for at least another season and could even attempt to tie him down to a new deal.
Real could test Tottenham’s resolve by making a £60million bid, while there is also strong interest from both Manchester City and Manchester United in the Welshman.
