Major development hands Spurs £25m boost in race for long-term target

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost in their chase of Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to Football Insider.

The Kenyan was strongly linked with a move to White Hart Lane this summer in a deal that would reunite him with former boss Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the South Coast outfit stood strong and kept the former Celtic ace at St. Mary’s another season with hopes of securing him on a long-term deal.

Still, the imminent departure of Ronald Koeman to Everton is thought to have thrown a spanner in the works, with the bruising midfield set to look for another exit route.

It is claimed that Spurs feel encouraged to launch another attempt to land the star, who has also been linked with Premier League champions Leicester City.

While Saints clearly hope to keep a hold of the player, the fact he will soon enter the final 12 months of his deal at St. Mary’s Stadium could force their hand.

Should they be forced into a sale, they are understood to value Wanyama at around £25m.
