Newcastle & Aston Villa eyeing January move for Spurs outcast to ease relegation fears

Aston Villa and Newcastle are just two of a host of clubs looking to end Andros Townsend’s Spurs nightmare next month, according to reports from The Mirror.

The 24-year-old has endured a difficult start to the season in north London, with manager Mauricio Pochettino having not used him since October.

Townsend is understood to be frustrated with his situation – he even clashed with fitness coach Nathan Gardiner during a warm-down after the win over Villa – and has recently been forced to train and play with the club’s U-21 side.

But reports claim that he may not have to wait too long for things to change, with Villa and Newcastle, as well as Leicester, Swansea and West Brom, eager to offer him a January escape route.

A move to any of the aforementioned sides may well appeal to Townsend, who has slipped out of Roy Hodgson’s England plans of late and is sure to be keen to play regularly with EURO 2016 looming on the horizon.
