According to reports from The Daily Mail this morning, Newcastle United have entered the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Florian Thauvin, who has been likened to 2013 Ballon d’Or nominee Franck Ribery.
The attacking midfielder has been in good form this season, bagging five goals and four assists in 33 league appearances for a Marseille side who are currently fourth in the Ligue 1 table. He’s also averaged 1.3 tackles, 2.1 shots, 1.5 created chances and 2.4 dribbles per match.
Tottenham have been in talks with the 22 year-old over the last few weeks, according to The Mail, and speculation has heightened since he was left out of L’OM’s squad to face FC Metz on Friday night – which ended in a 2-0 win for the Stade Velodrome outfit.
Despite three years remaining on Thauvin’s current contract, Spurs are hoping to land the France international on the cheap this summer.
But Newcastle’s interest will likely see his price-tag rise. Currently, Marseille value their man at £15million.
