Roy Hodgson’s latest squad selection is as baffling as it is predictable.
His determination to continue picking some of England’s most out-of-form and bang average players is outstanding. And there’s one who just does not justify his name on the team sheet – Andros Townsend.
Admittedly he enjoyed a decent bit of form and played well during England’s crucial World Cup qualifiers, particularly against Poland. But that, unfortunately, sums up his career to date.
Now he spends most of his time warming Tottenham’s bench and making the odd cameo appearance. He’s played just over an hour’s worth of Premier League football this season. So why is he continuously selected to play international football by Roy Hodgson? Well, Tim Sherwood has the answer. And it’s just as deluded as his claims that he’s always been a Spurs fan when, in fact, he’s a lifelong Gooner.
Listen to why he thinks Andros Townsend’s place in the England team is completely justified. No wonder he hasn’t got a job in management after his spell at White Hart Lane…
