According to The Telegraph, Tottenham are keen on a move for Barcelona's Andre Gomes, who is on loan at Everton - the Toffees are keen to make the switch permanent as soon as possible but the Portuguese seems like the perfect fit for Spurs.

What's the word?

Well, The Telegraph report that Spurs could look to challenge Marco Silva's side for the midfielder's signature in the summer, with the hope that he stalls on making his employment at Goodison Park long-term in January and wait until the end of the season to consider his options.

Mauricio Pochettino's men, who qualified for the Champions League knockout stages on Tuesday, could do with some fresh blood after a less than eventful summer window, prior to the start of the 2018/19 season, in which there were no major ins or outs - this was the first time a club has had absolutely zero activity in the transfer market in Premier League history.

A report from The Sun in October suggested that enforcers Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama will lead an exodus in the New Year and Gomes would make the perfect replacement for the former.

Dembele has established himself as one of the most well-rounded midfielders in the league since making the move to White Hart Lane from Fulham in 2012, but the big Belgian is unfortunately beginning to lose his legs as the physical demands of the game continue to increase - he suffered from a thigh problem at the start of the season and has now succumbed to an ankle injury that will keep him out until mid-January.

Gomes, meanwhile, has thoroughly impressed at the base of the Everton midfield and has looked one of the best signings of the summer. The 25-year-old shows a calmness on the ball akin to that of Dembele and is capable of making the most technically demanding passes look effortless.

The former Valencia man is, no doubt, a Rolls Royce of a player in that everything he does is with a pinch of class. However, he is not afraid to shy away from the ugly side of the game either - completing 2 tackles and winning 1.8 aerial duels per game, the 6-foot-2 player is the perfect partner for Idrissa Gueye.

If they can negotiate a more reasonable price for the number 8 - Barca have a release clause set at £89m - he would be a fantastic signing and one of Mauricio Pochettino's best to date.
