Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will refuse interest from London rivals Chelsea and remain at the club next season, according to a report in the Daily Star.

Pochettino is so integral to the club's plans - without his unstinting belief in what the club is trying to achieve, the house of cards falls down somewhat - that this represents a huge boost going into the summer transfer window.

What's the story, then?

The report states that Daniel Levy will back Pochettino in the transfer market and that will be enough to see the Argentine retain his belief in what the club is moving towards.

It goes on to say that Pochettino's excitement about moving into Tottenham's new stadium is also a factor in him snubbing Chelsea to remain in North London.

Chelsea look set to let Antonio Conte leave Stamford Bridge this summer - regardless of the result of the FA Cup final - and Pochettino had been a shock target to take over from the Italian.

Pochettino is Tottenham's bedrock

Tottenham are moving forward, improving year on year but in the absence of trophies or increased wages to keep players happy, it is Pochettino's faith in the project that is the glue that holds it all together.

If he were to leave, or even become distracted by the riches on offer at Chelsea, despite the Blues being more tumultuous and finishing below Spurs in the table, it would be a body blow to the club's hopes of making true progression under Pochettino.

It would pull the rug from under Tottenham if Pochettino were to leave.
