According to The Independent, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that the club may make no signings before the transfer window closes at 5pm on August 9, despite being linked with both Jack Grealish and Geoffrey Kondogbia.

The most exciting deal for Spurs fans however would be for Crystal Palace speedster Wilfried Zaha. The Evening Standard reports that the 25-year-old is now looking to play Champions League football, but they also say that Palace value their prized asset at £70m.

This would mean that chairman Daniel Levy would almost definitely have to break the club's transfer record for the second time in as many years after paying £42m for defender Davinson Sanchez last summer.

As The Guardian reported though, at the end of last season Pochettino called on Levy to be brave and to take risks in the transfer market before the Argentine boss signed a new five year deal to stay at the North London club, something that is yet to come to fruition.

With their rivals strengthening and spending big money, Spurs fans may be worried that the team will regress from their fourth place finish and FA Cup semi-final last season. Here at Football FanCast we have profiled the potential consequences of the Lilywhites not making any signings at all this summer.

A poor start costs them

Harry Kane celebrates scoring against Panama

Spurs had the most players out of any club in the world who made the semi-finals of this summer's World Cup in Russia. Whilst this may prove that they are blessed with top quality players in their squad at the moment, it also means that these nine players have been given an extended holiday and are likely to miss the opening game against Newcastle United, and may not be up to speed for a few games after that.

In Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris the whole spine of Spurs' starting XI will return late, along with a number of other players such as Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld.

Add to this the fact that Heung-min Son is also competing for South Korea in the Asian Games, which begins after the opening weekend of the Premier League, and it looks as though Spurs will have an extremely difficult start to the season if they do not bring in any players to compensate for this.

The youngsters get their chance

Many would see this as the most positive consequence of Spurs' lack of transfer business this summer. With the absence of Kane and co, Spurs' youngsters such as the left-sided midfielder/defender Anthony Georgiou and defensive midfielder Luke Amos have impressed on the preseason tour of the United States and could be handed game time at the start of the Premier League season.

Poch does have a reputation for developing young talent and after working with their manager every day this summer the two 21-year-olds will be well drilled in what he expects from his players. Amos especially will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of midfielders such as Ryan Mason and Harry Winks who have risen through the ranks at Tottenham.

Pochettino leaves

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino

If Levy does fail to make any signings at all this summer and Tottenham suffer a difficult start to the season, it is not inconceivable that Poch will leave the club, citing the fact that his calls to be backed in the market were not listened to.

The Spurs chairman was the only barrier in the way of Real Madrid appointing Pochettino as their new boss this summer, according to The Sun, and the Tottenham boss may feel he has to leave to save his reputation.

A thin squad and no additions will also make it difficult for Pochettino to compete on multiple fronts, and with the fans craving trophies they will have to back their manager or they could risk losing the man who has guided them to three consecutive top four finishes in the past three seasons.

So, Spurs fans, do you think Pochettino will leave at some point during this season if Levy doesn't open his chequebook and make a signing this summer? Have your say in our poll below.
