Being a BBC pundit is a lot easier than it may seem.
If you’re in the Match of the Day studio, a simple analysis of “terrible defending, brilliant attacking” suffices for 90% of games. Likewise, if you’re making scoreline predictions, few raise eyebrows if you pick the team higher in the Premier League table to win.
Overall, it’s a bit of a doss with the occasional pleasure of sitting opposite Gaby Logan – or Gary Lineker in his pants, if that’s what floats your boat.
But every pundit has their favourites and their anti-favourites – and that’s certainly the case with Mark Lawrenson.
Tottenham Hotspur have been absolutely flying this season and are now just one point behind table-topping title favourites Manchester City after giving them a spanking at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Yet, Lawro doesn’t seem so convinced by their title credentials. Indeed, by his reckoning, Mauricio Pochettino’s side should be in a lowly eighth place – eight points behind predicted leaders Manchester United.
That being said, spare a thought for the even less appreciated Hull City, whom Lawro hasn’t backed to win a single point this season. They’ve actually claimed seven – not bad for a side with a half-fit squad who’ve already faced Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea!
