Real Madrid are preparing a £20 million move for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in the January transfer window.
With the ageing Iker Casillas enduring a tough start to the season, the Spanish giants and current European champions are searching for a long-term replacement for their first-choice shotstopper, and view Lloris as the ideal man to don the gloves at the Bernabeu.
Despite putting pen to paper on a five-year contract extension at White Hart Lane just this summer, the Frenchman is desperate to play Champions League football, which is something that Tottenham have been unable to offer for a number of seasons.
Real may face competition in the form of French outfit Paris Saint-Germain for Lloris’s signature, and are also prepared to hold fire until next summer if a deal cannot be reached over the new year.
Although Spurs signed Michel Vorm in pre-season and also have veteran keeper Brad Friedel on their books, manager Mauricio Pochettino will be fighting tooth and nail to keep one of his star players at the Premier League club.
