Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela is hoping to stay at the club after becoming a regular in the starting XI.
This time last year, record signing Lamela was heavily linked with a move away from White Hart Lane following two disappointing seasons, with the Argentine close to making a switching to Marseille.
However, Spurs’ expected signing of Saido Berahino failed to materialise, forcing the Lilywhites to keep hold of the Argentina international.
And Lamela hasn’t disappointed, becoming an integral part of the squad that pushed Leicester City for the title and helped guarantee a place in next season’s Champions League.
The 24-year-old is now hoping to stay in order to further develop his football and make an impact in Europe’s top tier competition after the summer.
“Honestly, I feel comfortable in Tottenham, I’d like to stay one more year here.” he told TyCSports.com. “We are a brave group, very competitive. Hopefully everyone can stay together so we can improve and win some [form of] title. This year it was not possible but we were close and we will play the Champions League now.”
“The balance is good. We are second, and a draw is enough for us to be the runner-up. It’s very positive. Before starting, we just wanted to finish well. We are a young team that will continue to work hard to win the title next year.”
Lamela has made 43 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this season, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists.
