Relief for Tottenham as Real give up the chase

Gareth Bale Real Madrid have conceded defeat in their pursuit of Tottenham winger Gareth Bale, according to reports from the Evening Standard.

The La Liga giants were said to have made the Welshman their summer transfer priority, and were even willing to pay a world record £85million fee for his signature.

But, Spurs have remained resolute in their stance that Bale is not for sale, which has forced Real to back off.

Numerous reports in the Spanish press have suggested that the 23-year-old may consider a move, but the player himself has not attempted to a force the issue.

Real were hopeful that if the player actively pursued a switch that they could push Tottenham into selling, but their plans look to have been unsuccessful.

However, they may well return with an offer next summer and are hopeful that they can convince Bale that his chances of silverware and world recognition are higher in Spain.

Much depends on the Londoners’ ability to secure Champions League qualification, with the ex-Southampton man desperate to be playing in the biggest club tournament on the planet.

The news may have a major impact at Liverpool, with Real likely to now pursue Luis Suarez.

The Uruguayan has been extremely vocal in his desire to join the Bernabeu outfit, who may now push to make him their marquee signing.

Tottenham fans, is it a relief to hear that Gareth Bale will be staying?
