Reports in The Irish Sun earlier this month suggested that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen is a £40m target for La Liga giants Real Madrid as they look for a long-term successor to Luka Modric in the centre of the park.

The Denmark international has established himself as a key player for the north London outfit ever since his move from Ajax in 2013, but he only has 18 months remaining on his Spurs contract with no progression in talks between the club and his agent over extending his deal.

The 26-year-old has scored 57 goals and provided a further 75 appearances in 240 appearances, as per Transfermarkt, in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, and has formed a strong relationship with the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane.

Meanwhile, Gareth Bale made his name with Tottenham after scoring 56 goals and making 58 assists in 203 outings in total, according to Transfermarkt, before joining Real Madrid just days after Eriksen first arrived.

Which team is the dominant force in London right now? Playmaker FC's Tom Skinner has a very unpopular opinion on the matter. Check it out in the video below...

The 29-year-old has been unable to reproduce the form he showed towards the beginning of his career with the La Liga giants in more recent times – injuries have certainly hampered him in that respect – but he is certainly still well thought of among Spurs supporters.

We decided to ask their fans to vote on our poll to see whether they would be willing to sell Eriksen to Real Madrid if it led to them bringing Bale back in what would be a sensational return for the Wales international, but as you can see from the results below 57% said they weren’t keen on the potential deal.
