According to reports in The Sun last week, Manchester United are lining up a shock swoop for Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Mathew Ryan, and we speculated whether Tottenham Hotspur should be taking a look at the 26-year-old as well.
The Red Devils are potentially looking closely at the Australia international as they are expecting David De Gea to leave the club with The Sun saying he has told them he won’t sign a new deal, and it would certainly be a surprise move despite his impressive form for the Seagulls.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is likely to be in the market for a new stopper either in January or next summer given Michel Vorm’s contract expires at the end of the campaign, and he could also be starting to search for Hugo Lloris’ long-term successor.
While the Frenchman has been a massive player for Spurs over the years, mistakes are beginning to creep into his game in recent months – most notably two major errors in this season’s Champions League – while he was also convicted of a drink driving offence committed during the summer.
The 31-year-old’s spot in the starting XI is far less certain than it has been throughout his time with the north London outfit, so we decided to ask Tottenham fans to vote on our poll to see whether they would want Pochettino and Daniel Levy to hijack United’s reported pursuit of Ryan.
As you can see from the results below, 65% of those that voted wouldn’t move for the Australian, who won the PFA fans’ Premier League Player of the Month award for October, which suggests that either they want a higher-profile addition, or that they believe that the popular Paulo Gazzaniga has the ability to step up and be their number one in the future.
