Mauricio Pochettino's career at Tottenham Hotspur ended abruptly despite the fact the Argentine manager took the club to the brink of glory.Of course, getting to the Champions League final was his biggest achievement in north London but it's difficult not to think that his Spurs side could have lifted a trophy under his tutelage.

Money talks: How much did Levy pay for each of these Spurs stars?

But according to Sam Allardyce who was a guest on talkSPORT on Thursday, the players should be blamed for his downfall as they were the ones who ultimately let him down.

"What they did to Mauricio Pochettino was tragic. It was their performances and what they did to get him the sack was unbelievable. I thought it was really out of order. It shows, as a manager, sometimes you can never trust your players."

Of course, exactly what went wrong in the dressing room is still up for debate but Pochettino couldn't steady the ship that was heading for the rocks despite his previous success.

Now, however, it will be up to Jose Mourinho to get Spurs back on track and to potentially eclipse his predecessor's work.

Only time will tell how successful he'll be at that.

In other news, many Spurs fans were in shock after hearing that their club has been linked to a player they definitely don't want...
