According to a report from the Express published at the beginning of January, Tottenham Hotspur are readying a bid of £30m to land Leicester City's Ricardo Pereira.

The new gaffer, Jose Mourinho, is reportedly keen on the full-back but could still face some tough competition from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, who seemingly have a similar idea.

The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 - how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?

The 26-year-old defender has made a huge impact at the King Power Stadium since arriving from Portugal in 2018.

And when we take into consideration that the right-back position has regularly been a sore spot for Spurs - with Aurier often heavily criticised by the fans for his blunders and bad displays - this reported deal truly does make a lot of sense.

Especially when we compare their ongoing campaigns in the Premier League and the statistical difference between them.

But it has to be noted that Pereira has played more often in 2019/20, tallying a total of 1890 minutes while Aurier, though now a regular starter under Mourinho, has only managed 1449 himself.

The above stats were taken prior to Spurs and Leicester's fixtures against Watford and Burnley respectively.

Still, we can immediately notice that Pereira has been performing admirably and edges out his counterpart in almost every single category presented above.

Most notably, even though Aurier can boast an impressive 3.1 tackles per game, the Leicester full-back is still better with 4.3 per game to his name so far.

When it comes to intercepting the ball and breaking up the opposition's attack, there's little to split them as both Aurier and Pereira's figures stand at 1.9 interceptions per game.

But with Leicester City's attacking tendencies under Brendan Rodgers, it doesn't really come as a surprise to see the Portuguese right-back have a bigger impact when going forward.

His 2.2 dribbles per game are more impressive than his rival's 1.6 but it has to be noted that Aurier does average 1.1 key passes per game as opposed to Pereira's 0.8.

Overall, however, Whoscored rates Leicester's full-back as the better of the two in the ongoing campaign with a rating of 7.54 while Mourinho's ace has warranted 7.23.

Judging by the stats, it seems that Pereira would indeed represent an improvement on Aurier and could potentially strengthen a sore spot in the team.
