The Icelandic international was on loan at the Liberty Stadium last season and was in impressive form ahead of a certain summer departure from Hoffenheim.
The 23 year old immediately ruled out a move to Swansea on a permanent basis after hearing that Rodgers had left the club and so the former Reading star had to decide between Liverpool and Spurs.
Sigurdsson chose to join the North London club after discussion with both Spurs and L.iverpool, leaving Rodgers desperate to add more talent to his Reds side.
The Tottenham midfielder has found himself a permanent role in Andre Villas-Boas’ side with Gareth Bale operating in a more central role and the versatile midfielder has expressed his delight at joining Spurs.
“I wasn’t close to joining Swansea permanently because Brendan obviously left and that changed everything,” Sigurdsson told Sky Sports.
“I didn’t know who would be coming in and what would happen but what did happen was obviously a good thing for the club because they won a cup this season and are doing well in the league. The club has pushed on from last season.”
