Spurs boss backing out of top midfield transfer target deal

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is on the verge of backing out of a potential deal for Dortmund’s Sven Bender, according to reports from the London Evening Standard.

The Londoners have so far endured a pretty quiet summer in terms of major additions, with Clinton N’Jie and defensive trio Kevin Wimmer, Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld the only arrivals at White Hart Lane.

Many fans have called for a new central midfielder to be signed following the exits of Paulinho, Benjamin Stambouli and Etienne Capoue.

However, reports claim that prime target Bender may no longer be the player Pochettino wants, with the 26-year-old’s injury record worrying the Argentine.

The German has spent large chunks of the past two seasons on the treatment table, which has prompted the Tottenham gaffer to look at other options.

Chelsea winger Victor Moses is also said to be a late target for Spurs.
