Spurs closing in on next summer transfer; Defensive monolith set to move

According to reports from Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur defender Federico Fazio is set to join Roma on a season-long loan with the view to a permanent transfer.

The Lilywhites signed the towering centre-back, who measures in at a monolithic 6 foot 5, in summer 2014 after he’d captained Sevilla to a Europa League title.

But the Argentina international has gone on to make just 14 Premier League appearances for the north Londoners and spent the second half of last season back at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on loan.

Last month, manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed the 29-year-old isn’t in his first-team plans for the coming campaign after excluding him from Spurs’ pre-season tour squad.

And according to Sky Sports, Fazio is now set to complete a season-long loan move to Roma, with the view to a permanent transfer at a cost of £3.5million.

Pochettino has already revealed that he won’t look to find another centre-back via the transfer market because of the promising youngsters at his disposal – namely Cameron Carter-Vickers and Anton Walkes.
