Tottenham Hotspur are attempting to sign Paulo Dybala on loan from Juventus prior to the transfer deadline, per The Independent.

What’s the word?

The club have been attempting to beat Thursday’s 5pm deadline to bring in the Argentina international.

Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Athletic had reported that the noises from Turin were “increasingly pessimistic” as Spurs tried to negotiate a move for Dybala.

Indeed, a separate company owns his image rights and it could cost Spurs a multi-million-pound fee to acquire them alongside the player.

The Independent, though, claims that both Juve and Spurs are trying to find a solution to the impasse and that a loan deal with an obligation to buy could be struck.

The report states that it would still be “very difficult”, though all other terms have been agreed.

Remarkably hard

Football FanCast sources have said that any agreement for Dybala at this stage is some way off.

Spurs began the day with a confidence that a transfer could be arranged but it now appears that time is running out, with the image rights issues holding up negotiations.

One source has confirmed to FFC that the situation is changing constantly but Spurs are trying to get it over the line as they look to back manager Mauricio Pochettino.

He is a big fan of Dybala but another figure with knowledge of the deal has said that it is “virtually impossible” at this stage.

A breakthrough will have to be found remarkably quickly for that to change, and fans will surely hope the switch to a loan can do the trick.
