Tottenham Hotspur's Dele Alli has come in for scathing criticism from legendary midfielder Ruud Gullit this week, following his display in their 1-0 defeat to RB Leipzig.

What's he said?

Spurs were no match for their Bundesliga opposition in Wednesday night's Champions League Round of 16 first-leg as Timo Werner's second-half penalty split the two sides.

But in reality, it could have been all over by the break as the visitors racked up 12 shots in the first half alone.

Gullit, who was doing punditry for beIN Sports, singled out the English midfielder and questioned his attitude, he said:

"Dele Alli.

"We were talking about it before. That is my point with him. That is my doubt in him.

"When it is a good team, he can handle that because they are playing and everything, and he comes into spaces but when it doesn't go that well, is he the player that can raise that team? No, I don't think so.

"Is that part of his game? It could be because technically he's a good player - good physique, good vision and everything and then he was frustrated [to be subtituted], and he had to come out. He had to go out."

Concerning form

The 23-year-old's form over the past couple of weeks has been rather disappointing.

When Jose Mourinho arrived at the club back in November, Alli looked revitalised by directly contributing to six goals in five successive games, but that wasn't to last very long at all.

Since then, the box-to-box midfielder has only scored two and assisted one in 15 appearances, per Transfermarkt.

His performance against Aston Villa on Sunday left a lot to be desired, as outlined in this article by Football FanCast, and he hardly redeemed himself despite being handed another start.

Via SofaScore, Alli recorded the second-lowest rating (6.5) of any Spurs player after he failed to provide any key passes, had no attempts at goal despite playing an advanced role, and won just 43% of his duels.

No clues whatsoever: Which seasons do these iconic Spurs images belong to?

There are huge improvements to be made in a year where his international place is at serious risk ahead of the Euros this summer.

Gullit's comments should be a word of warning to Spurs.

Alli must do better.
