Tottenham became the first Premier League club to not sign a single player in a summer transfer window since its introduction in 2003, and their fans on Twitter went into meltdown as it slammed shut.
Spurs have built a new stadium this summer on the same site as the old White Hart Lane. Chairman Daniel Levy initially claimed that this wouldn’t have an impact on the transfer budget, but after the window closed manager Mauricio Pochettino had blamed the stadium and Brexit for the lack of activity.
The North London side had been heavily linked with Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish and had a £25m bid rejected before Villa stated that he was not for sale at any price. Crucially though, the club did confirm that Pochettino, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son all signed new long-term contracts this summer.
With Son missing most of August for the Asian Games though and Harry Kane’s backup still the faltering Fernando Llorente, many Spurs fans felt that they missed their chance to close the gap on Manchester City and challenge for the title.

The worst part of the inactivity in the transfer window is that it's put huge pressure on Poch and the players to get a win this week. If the first couple of games don't go to plan it's going to be toxic on here and at the new stadium #thfc #COYS

Can’t wait for the Sissoko / Skipp pivot at Newcastle on Saturday. Just what we need to cheer us up after a disastrous transfer window.

#thfc as a club are moving forward with the facilities and on-pitch achievements and I appreciate the squad size restrictions and need to sell before you buy but it's all been a little demoralising this transfer window. #coys

Funny that the new stadium hasn’t impacted upon our budget but yet we’re the first club ever to not sign a single player in a summer transfer window since it’s inception… some might call it coincidence – “couldn’t get it over the line” “the current market”, I call it lies…

#LevyOut – These figures don’t lie! During the past 2 transfer windows #THFC have bought the least players, have spent the least money, have bought only 1x £30m+ player, and avg. spend per player is by far the lowest. The only #EPL top 6 club to make a profit. #Spurs #THFC pic.twitter.com/oCzJ3PjYDw

Heres my thoughts on everything this season. To start with, I’m as down and disappointed as everyone else about missed opp in this transfer window. I wholeheartedly believed if brought in 1 more starting attacking player and 1 CM we could compete for prem #thfc

First time I’ve thought this 100% but…. ENIC & LEVY OUT! #THFC

The board and the club have sent out a strong message to Kane, Eriksen, Alli today, and that’s if you want to win trophies, you will have to leave.
