Erik Lamela has been extremely unlucky with injuries recently as the Argentine has already missed a total of 12 games this season due to a hamstring issue.
But his mentality and commitment was never in doubt and that’s something Jose Mourinho has not only acknowledged but also seems to respect very much.
Alasdair Gold asked the Spurs coach about Lamela and the Portuguese confirmed that the player is someone he really likes, but also someone who’s had bad luck with his fitness throughout the campaign.
Mourinho also confirmed Lamela used his time off to train and help the team, rather than returning to his native Argentina, and the gaffer’s comments have certainly resonated well with supporters…

One of the fans went as far as saying Lamela could be the new Ledley King, a legend of Spurs’ backline who had similar issues with injuries throughout his career.
And when you put it that way, there is a certain resemblance that can be drawn between them.
Lamela is the new Ledley King

But Mourinho’s words could also be interpreted in a completely different way – yes, the Special One is definitely praising Lamela for his incredible mentality but he could also be aiming a veiled dig at those who are not showing the same level of commitment as the Argentine.
The fans were quick to mention Troy Parrott as someone who might be the target of this indirect shade from the Spurs boss, after he was spotted in Dubai during the winter break.
And people derided my comment about Parrott going off to Dubai. It’s quite clear what impresses Mourinho 🤷🏻♂️ https://t.co/0hyOPYwbVa

This seems like a veiled dig and probably a clever way of letting players know how much that means. Maybe why parrot has dropped off radar. Trips to Dubai when he could’ve been training and trying to impress 🤷♂️ https://t.co/z8Kad9nkkN
