Spurs fans love Pochettino’s defiance over Champions League photo

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino insists that he will involve the entirety of his matchday squad in the pre-match photograph prior to the Champions League final, per the Daily Mail.

Spurs will play Liverpool in Madrid on Saturday as they bid to win the competition for the first time in their history.

Pochettino’s side have beaten Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Ajax in the knockout stages, with the latter result coming after a scarcely believable comeback; Lucas Moura scored a second-half hat-trick to save Spurs after falling three goals behind.

It is normal that the starting XI are included in the photograph but Pochettino insists that he wants to flout the rules and include every single substitute in the picture, too.

Indeed, the Argentine claims that a substitute could ultimately change the game, just as Fernando Llorente did in Amsterdam, without getting any recognition.

He said: “I say: ‘F*** off!’ What I want is all the players before the start of the game — 22 or 23 — in the picture on the pitch. That is the team that won or lost.”

He added: “People care a lot about that. The players care more than we believe. When I was a player I always fought with the organisation and the club. And the same now I’m a manager. I’m going to propose it.”

And fans love the fact that Pochettino is so conscious of the feelings of his players, while also surely appreciating his fearlessness in directly defying the usual UEFA practices.
