Tottenham Hotspur have announced some contract news, and no, it's not Japhet Tanganga just yet.

Youngster Harvey White has signed a new deal until the summer of 2023 after continuing to impress for the U23 squad, and fans appear to be smitten with the update.

The 18-year-old was part of the first-team setup for their pre-season campaign in the International Champions Cup and Audi Cup and this season he has started all six matches in the UEFA Youth League.

White was even one of the first players to score a goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, so his name could forever be etched in history, especially if he lives up to the rave reviews from supporters.

In 27 appearances this campaign, White has scored five goals and provided three assists, playing primarily as a central midfielder but also at left-back across competitions such as the Premier League 2 and the aforementioned UEFA Youth League.

It has led to some speculative shouts from other members of the Spurs faithful, ranging from him being the next Roberto Carlos - if his future is at left-back, of course - to becoming the next Christian Eriksen through the middle.

A further supporter even suggested he was the best player since Gareth Bale, although that has to be a little tongue in cheek for the time being.

Given Tottenham's current situation, there were a number of fans who couldn't resist asking the golden question...

Can White play as a striker?

It's not his natural position, so it's hugely unlikely, but some are clearly still rueing the injuries suffered to Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.
