Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left delighted after Leandro Damiao scored the winning goal in Kawasaki Frontale’s pre-season victory over Chelsea on Friday.

The Brazilian striker has been linked with Spurs previously in his career.

Indeed, the club were reported to be confident of sealing a deal for him in 2012, when Andre Villas-Boas was manager, per The Guardian, though it never came to pass.

That report also claimed that Spurs had identified Damiao as a target in 2010 under Harry Redknapp but they were not able to agree a fee with Internacional.

The 29-year-old has had a nomadic career since his eventual move away from the club. He joined Santos in 2014 and spent four years at the club, taking in loan spells at Cruzeiro, Real Betis, Flamengo and Internacional prior to his move to Kawasaki.

And he scored a close-range header on Friday to give the Japanese team a narrow victory over Frank Lampard’s side, to the delight of Spurs fans, who enjoyed an opportunity to indulge in some banter.
