Tottenham Hotspur fans waxed lyrical about former midfielder Mousa Dembele on his birthday.

The club tweeted their best wishes to the central midfielder on Tuesday, despite selling the Belgium international in the January transfer window.

Indeed, he moved to Guangzhou R&F at the turn of the year, calling time on a seven-year spell in north London.

In that time, Dembele, like any Spurs player to join the club after 2008, failed to win a trophy at Spurs but he did make 249 appearances in central midfield following a switch from Fulham in 2012.

A reliable operator in the centre of the pitch, Dembele’s time in north London was characterised by pirouettes and dominant performances and he retains a special place in the hearts of many fans.

Indeed, there was an outpouring of affection for the veteran midfielder on Twitter as he celebrated his 32^nd birthday.
