Tottenham are “following” Gent’s in-form centre-forward Laurent Depoitre ahead of January, at which point he could move, according to the club’s former player Frederic Herpoel.
The 27-year-old has been in excellent form in Belgium’s top tier so far this season, with six goals in 10 games to his name already and is long-established as a Jupiler League goal-getter with 80 strikes since 2007.
And it appears that his exploits have attracted Spurs, who are currently short on options up top beyond last season’s hero, Harry Kane.
Although links with Depoitre may come as a shock with the player barely know outside of his homeland, Herpoel has told RTL Sport that Spurs are interested in the striker, who could move on in January:
“Depoitre, I think he will soon leave Gent. I do not know if it will be for January, but in any case I think he will go to Tottenham in England.
“He will remain at Gent for the remaining months but then he will make his choice.
“He has no offer, but I know that Tottenham are closely following him.”
Depoitre has carved out a solid reputation in Belgium after impressing with Oostende, but is yet to represent his nation.
