The grand return of the Champions League didn’t really go as planned for Tottenham Hotspur as RB Leipzig outclassed them in north London and recorded a 1-0 away win.
Jose Mourinho’s troops managed to minimise the damage done by the Germans but nothing more than that, and now they have a mountain to climb in a couple of weeks’ time.
The fans were naturally discussing how individual Spurs players fared on the night, and it seems that Gedson Fernandes divided opinion.
Some thought that he was brilliant and one of the best performers on the pitch.
I thought Gedson was incredibly bright and made a few sweet crosses. We were lethargic until Lamela and Ndembele came on. I hate that every team we play has the hard nosed guy who sets the tone. We have that guy Lamela but can’t keep him healthy. He and Le Celso are our engine

Gedson Fernandes is the player who’s been tasked with babysitting Serge Aurier, and he’s performed admirably so far. He has offered the most for Spurs going forward as well, and he’s really impressed me.

I’m particularly happy with Gedson Fernandes. He’s putting in a proper shift going forward & getting back 👏 #COYS

From everything I’ve seen of Gedson, he honestly looks like he has everything to be a very good DM. His recovery is ridiculous

And it didn’t take long for some of fans to start comparing him to other Spurs players and it seems that, for the majority of them, he outshined some of his teammates.
One fan stated that he was better than Dele Alli and Ben Davies, while one other called him the new Sissoko of the team.
Better than Dele & Davis on the Pitch.

I said it after the Watford game, Gedson is our new Sissoko but with more technical ability on the ball. Has a great engine on him.

Gedson was better than Winks

But of course, some fans had a completely different standpoint.
One fan said he was nowhere near good enough while one another slammed him by calling him a “bargain basement”.
People have actually said gedson Fernandes played well tonight, I mean I honestly don’t know what people are drinking or taking to think that, he looks like sessegnon but right footed, doesn’t want the ball just runs around without any point, nowhere near good enough #THFC

Gedson Fernandes. Not good. Levy thought he was getting Bruno for a bargain. Gedson is bargain basement.

Elsewhere, many Spurs fans couldn’t believe what one journalist had asked Mourinho prior to the Leipzig game…
