Spurs haven’t given up on impressive Man United target transfer

Tottenham are still in the running for Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin, despite the player’s desire to play Champions League football, according to reports from the London Evening Standard.

The France international was one of the Saints’ most impressive performers in a campaign that defied expectation last term, and also shone under now Spurs chief Mauricio Pochettino through his spell at the helm of the South Coast outfit.

A move away from St Mary’s Stadium in the coming months appears to be the most likely outcome for the 25-year-old, who has already admitted that playing for a side in the Champions League is his aim.

Manchester United have subsequently been aligned with Schneiderlin, but even though Louis van Gaal’s side can offer top-level European football, reports claim that Spurs have not given up on a deal for the £25m-rated star.

The Londoners are reluctant to match the figure Southampton want, but are willing to offer players such as Andros Townsend and Benjamin Stambouli as makeweights.

White Hart Lane hosted Champions League football during the 2010/11 campaign, but will be a Europa League venue next season.
