Spurs keen on £25m Liverpool target

Tottenham are pushing for a £25m summer move for Benfica’s attacking sensation Eduardo Salvio, according to the London Evening Standard.

The 24-year-old has been one of the Portuguese champions’ most impressive performers in recent times, playing a key role in the successes of last term.

Liverpool have recently been linked with a move to lure him to England from the Estadio da Luz, but now it’s claimed that Spurs are also in the running.

White Hart Lane chiefs are understood to have been watching the 24-year-old of late, with representatives having kept an eye on Benfica’s 3-0 win over Vitoria Setubal last weekend.

It’s expected that negotiations will be opened ahead of the looming transfer window at the end of the season, but the fate of a possible deal hinges on Tottenham’s Champions League status, with the cash from being at Europe’s top table enough to fund a raid.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy may, however, authorise a swoop if Mauricio Pochettino can bring in respectable fees for fringe players.
