Tottenham are in need of reinforcements this month if they are to improve on their eighth-place position and push for the Champions League places.

They have been linked with the likes of Gedson Fernandes and Krzysztof Piątek (Il Giornale via by Calciomercato.com), the latter a striker who they now need more than ever upon hearing the news that Harry Kane faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

With the England skipper out until April Jose Mourinho is likely desperate for a new forward, as it leaves Son Heung-min as his only option for the central role, so there is a worrying lack of back-up.

Piatek is a bit of a gamble and the news that Milan want €30m (£25.7m) could deter Spurs' interest, but given their desperation they may decide to do whatever they can to secure the services of the Poland international.

His goal record for the Italian outfit is not a lot to write home about, with 15 goals in 39 games, but the fans urging Daniel Levy to spend the necessary money are still right to do so.

At 24 Piatek is still young with time to develop, and at Genoa he showed what a terrific finisher he is with 19 goals in 21 games, so it is up to Mourinho to get that out of him once again if he does join.

In fact, when Kane returns he probably would be satisfied acting as his understudy due to his relative youth, and the knowledge that if he impresses upon his arrival then he will be guaranteed a good amount of game time.

As a result, those fans who think he shouldn't be signed because he isn't worth the money are slightly misguided, and have their priorities wrong considering Spurs are still competing in three competitions this term.
