Jose Mourinho is doing Tottenham no favours by not starting Giovani Lo Celso

Tottenham Hotspur have hit a wall under Jose Mourinho.

The north Londoners have won just once in their last five matches, a far cry from the three straight victories that the side managed when the three-time Premier League winner was appointed.

Since then, they have been defeated by Manchester United, Chelsea and even Southampton.

Mourinho will be left with several decisions over the course of the next few months, starting here in January with doubts ever-increasing over a couple of Spurs’ long-serving stars.

On the Chalkboard

One of which is Christian Eriksen, who appears most likely to not sign an extension, which means it is a case of this month or in the summer for the £81m-rated playmaker.

It is a saga that has rumbled on for quite some time with Record reporting that his departure is ‘practically certain’ via the Daily Mail just over a week ago.

Inter Milan and Manchester United are two teams supposedly interested in signing the 27-year-old.

Should Mourinho keep selecting Eriksen in the starting XI?

On Sunday afternoon, the Danish international was preferred to Giovani Lo Celso, who was praised by supporters for his game-changing impact. However, it’s been a recurring theme in recent weeks.

Eriksen has started back-to-back Premier League games, and then in this FA Cup tie while his Argentinian teammate has started just two top-flight matches and hasn’t even been brought on four times either, per Transfermarkt.

Fresh reports suggest that Spurs could be keen on signing the 23-year-old permanently this month as he is only on loan from Real Betis, which seems bizarre given Mourinho’s recent preference to Eriksen.

It is doing the club no favours given that one player wants to be at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and the other doesn’t.

Mourinho should be preparing for the long-term picture by utilising Lo Celso more frequently while it is probably better off that Eriksen rots with the youth squad as he won’t be lining up in the white strip come the start of next season.

Meanwhile, several fans have been hammering this 2012 signing after their recent FA Cup result…
