Danny Rose’s spell at Tottenham has been a whirlwind.

From scoring that thunderbolt of a volley against Arsenal to becoming an England regular and reaching the Champions League final, he now finds himself out on loan at Newcastle.

Once the summer arrives, he will have just one year left on his deal at Spurs, but it’s already been claimed by one journalist that the left-back may never play for the club again.

It’s unsurprising, particularly given supposed dressing room unrest and a reported bust-up with Jose Mourinho.

With Daniel Levy planning their summer activity already, it’s been reported that Spurs are interested in Barcelona’s Marc Cucurella.

The defender is currently on loan at Getafe and it’s been claimed by COPE, via Sport Witness, that Spurs are willing to pay his €25m (£21m) release clause.

Getafe are hoping to pay Barcelona €16m (£13.4m) for 60% of his rights but any deal could include the aforementioned release clause.

That’s attracted not only the interest of Spurs, but also Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid.

But if Spurs were to land him, it would surely mean the end for Rose’s time in north London.

He has been an important member of the squad in recent years but after slipping down the pecking order his future at Tottenham has never looked so uncertain.

A move for Cucurella could be the first steps Spurs are taking in order to replace him - it’s cunning planning ahead of time and he’s certainly in better form than Rose.

The Spaniard has been impressive in La Liga this term, claiming four assists and registering 1.4 key passes in 25 appearances, albeit from a left midfield position.

If you compare that to Rose, the differences are alarming for the Englishman. He’s failed to register a solitary assist in the league this season at all.

A true test for any Spurs fan: Can you match these iconic images with the right results?

On top of that, Cucurella has also been more influential defensively. The 21-year-old has made 2.1 tackles per outing compared to Rose’s 1.5.

Although their transfer target has been playing in a more advanced role, his natural position is as a left-back, playing there on 75 occasions, via Transfermarkt.

As such, he could be the man that puts a permanent end to Rose’s career in the capital.
