Tottenham Hotspur are set to target young players this summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas.

What’s the word?

Spurs are set to add to their squad in this transfer window after going two without acquiring a single player.

Lucas Moura was their last permanent signing in January of 2018, but Thomas reports that there will be activity in the coming transfer window.

Leeds United winger Jack Clarke is listed as one potential target, with Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon another mooted acquisition.

The report claims that Spurs want to sign at least one defender, while they have also identified central midfield, No.10 and the wings as positions in need of strengthening.

However, the club are unlikely to conduct any business prior to the Champions League final on June 1, when they take on Liverpool in Madrid.

Wrong strategy

Spurs are on the precipice of finally breaking through the glass ceiling and becoming genuine challengers both at home and in Europe.

They have finished in the top-four and reached the showpiece of Europe’s elite club competition; they need more than prospects this summer.

Moves for young players is all well and good provided that the club have the depth needed to cover for them if they don’t hit the ground running.

Spurs, at the end of the day, quite simply don’t.

Winners are needed this summer, players with a proven CV who can come in and instantly play at the highest level.

Neither Clarke nor Sessegnon can do that and chairman Daniel Levy would be wise to turn his attentions elsewhere or, at the very least, rethink his priorities.
