According to Italian website Calciomercato, Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is a target for AC Milan as they look to get back to the top of Serie A, but Spurs should be on alert now that Maurizio Sarri wants rid of the 23-year-old.
Calciomercato report that Sarri has decided Bakayoko is too physical for the style of football he wants to play and the Frenchman has struggled to adapt to Sarri’s quick-passing game in Chelsea’s pre-season friendlies against Perth Glory and Inter Milan.
The Blues parted with £40m to sign Bakayoko from Monaco just last summer and despite a poor first season in the Premier League, he is still valued at £36m by Transfermarkt.
The central midfielder played 43 games for Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side last season and chipped in with three goals and three assists in that time, despite being a defensively minded player.
If Bakayoko could find the form he showed at Monaco, he could be a key player for Mauricio Pochettino and would be an ideal replacement for Mousa Dembele, who has been heavily linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer.
At just 23 years old he should not be written off as a flop, but it is clear that he needs to leave Chelsea as it has not been a match made in heaven at Stamford Bridge.
Any potential move to Spurs would require chairman Daniel Levy to dust off his chequebook and Chelsea may not be willing to sell to a direct rival. However, if the offer is good enough and Sarri has told the Chelsea hierarchy that he doesn’t want Bakayoko, Spurs could just beat Milan to the signing.
