Spurs plan shock move for Man United German target

Tottenham are in the running for Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes, according to reports from The Metro.

The Gelsenkirchen ace has impressed this term for the Bundesliga side, attracting interest from Manchester United.

But now Spurs are also in the running, with reports revealing that the Londoners are keen and can afford a summer raid for him.

Schalke value their man at around £13m, and the Lilywhites’ share of the Premier League’s new TV deal could help them to fund a swoop.

Howedes is a centre-back by trade, but played at left-back for Germany last summer at the World Cup – which his side won.

Schalke are keen to keep their man, but unless they finish in the Champions League spots they may find it tricky to do so.

The 27-year-old has spent his entre senior career with his current side, and has represented his nation on 32 occasions.
