The Guardian are reporting that the London club are looking to bring Caulker back to White Hart Lane, with doubts over their current centre-backs at the club. Injury-plagued Younes Kaboul looks set to be out of contract at the end of the season, whilst Jan Vertonghen is expected to attract interest from Barcelona in the summer.
Many fans were surprised to see Spurs sell the young Englishman last summer, as Caulker went looking for regular first team football. But with Cardiff struggling in a fight for Premier League survival, Spurs could bring the 22-year-old back to the Lane should City be relegated in May, and should Caulker not want to spend a year in the Championship.
It isn’t publicly known whether Caulker has a buy-back clause in his contract, however it is anticipated that Tottenham would have installed a first option clause when the defender moved to Wales in the summer.
A return to White Hart Lane for Caulker will also depend on Tim Sherwood’s job security. Many rumours are surrounding the future of Sherwood at Spurs, with many pundits expecting the 45-year-old to be replaced in the summer. Spurs are currently 6th, 7 points behind 4th placed Arsenal.
