Spurs ready for mass sale to bring in transfer funds

Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to offload no fewer than six players in the January transfer window as they look to trim down their squad and build up funds for signings.

Aaron Lennon has lost his place in the side to Andros Townsend and has been linked with an £8.5 million move to Crystal Palace, while Spurs have also been disappointed in Brazilian midfielder Paulinho as they try to recoup as much of the £16.5 million they paid for him in 2013 as possible.

Elsewhere, Etienne Capoue has failed to convince and could leave for Napoli on loan, Kyle Naughton has been pushed down the pecking order in defence, Younes Kaboul has lost his place to Federico Fazio in the backline and Emmanuel Adebayor finds himself in Harry Kane’s shadow.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino could therefore look to sell the players in order to make his own signings in January, with a £25 million move for Everton’s James McCarthy being mooted.
