Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing River Plate striker Lucas Alario, according to Argentine TV channel TyC Sports.
Spurs are eager to sign attacking reinforcements this summer as manager Mauricio Pochettino looks to ease the pressure and expectations on lone striker Harry Kane.
Recent reports have linked Spurs with a move for AZ Alkmaar’s Vincent Janssen and Roma’s Antonio Sanabria.
But with nothing seemingly materialising from both links thus far, it appears Pochettino has now turned to South America for potential alternatives.
Alario, 23, has registered six goals and two assists in 13 games for River this season and is widely regarded as one of the most promising strikers in Argentina.
The striker has a €15m (£12.5m) release clause and TyC Sports claim Pochettino is ready to pay the money in order to bring Alario to the Premier League.
Transfermarkt.com value Alario at £4.13m and his River Plate contract runs to 2018.
