Gareth Bale continues to be linked with a possible move from Real Madrid to Tottenham Hotspur.

On the chalkboard

El Chiringuito TV reported earlier this week that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy had made an enquiry for the Wales international.

He has made 12 league appearances thus far this season and one has to ask the question: Would Bale actually bring anything to the club at this point?

Per WhoScored, he has scored twice and registered two assists, averaging 2.2 shots per game, 0.9 key passes, 1.1 dribbles, 0.8 dispossessions and 1.4 unsuccessful touches.

He has a pass accuracy rate of 80.4%, while also averaging 0.5 tackles and 0.3 interceptions.

This is a player who, by all accounts, looks remarkably selfish in terms of his numbers.

Of course, to bring him into the club, Spurs may well have to break the bank; The Guardian reported at the time of him signing his new contract that he became the highest-paid player in world football with a wage of £600,000-per-week before tax.

Declining

Bale isn’t getting better.

Going back to the 2016/17 season, Bale scored seven goals and registered two assists in La Liga in 19 appearances, averaging 3.4 shots per game, 1.2 key passes, 1.4 dribbles, and 0.8 dispossessions, along with 0.8 unsuccessful touches.

The season after, he scored 16 goals and laid on two assists, averaging 3 shots per game, 1.6 key passes, 1.2 dribbles, 0.8 dispossessions, and 1.3 unsuccessful touches.

In 18/19, he had eight goals to his name, three assists, 2.6 shots per game, just 0.6 key passes, 0.8 dribbles, 0.7 dispossessions, and 0.8 unsuccessful touches.

He is clearly on the downswing of his career and a move to Spurs, while it could potentially reignite his career, seems like a stretch at this point.

They would have to splash the cash and then cross their fingers that he can get back to his best.

The signs are not good.

Meanwhile, Spurs have been handed some excellent injury news!
