Spurs set to lose transfer target to Spanish giants

Tottenham look set to miss out on free agent Yevhen Konoplyanka, with reports from Mundo Deportivo having revealed that the winger is close to joining Atletico Madrid.

The Ukraine international is officially unattached after seeing out his contract with Europa League runners-up Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and is one of the more tempting freebies available this summer.

His name is no secret among English fans, with Liverpool having almost signed him in January 2014, and Spurs have been heavily aligned with him of late.

Recent reports suggested that the London club had all but sealed a deal for ‘Kono’, but now it’s claimed that he’s been in Madrid since the weekend and is set to sign for Atleti once Arda Turan has been sold.

Konoplyanka is a pacey winger who has been lauded for his skills and delivery from wide, and missing out on him may come as a blow to Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino as he plots to mount a serious Champions League qualification push.
